For many years, when people thought of an SUV, the Ford Explorer was one of the first that came to mind. And while it now has a lot more competition than it used to, it’s still one of the most premier SUVs available. The 2020 Ford Explorer has four trims to pick from, but the base XLT may be enough to satisfy all of your needs.

Power and Performance

The Ford Explorer XLT comes with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and is mated to a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but four-wheel drive is available.

For a hefty SUV, the Ford Explorer XLT has some real sportiness. It also gets very good gas mileage for its class: 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

Space and Comfort

There are three rows in the 2020 Ford Explorer XLT, with plenty of head- and legroom for up to six people. Cloth upholstery, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, and second-row captain’s chairs come standard.

In addition to lots of space for passengers, you’ll also love the cargo room. You will get 18.2 cubic feet behind the back row, 47.9 cubic feet when it’s folded down, and 87.8 cubic feet with both rows folded.

Tech and Safety

There are loads of advanced components in the new Ford Explorer XLT. Tech features include push-button start, satellite radio, four USB ports, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ integration, and an infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen. As for safety, every model comes with lane keep assist, post-collision braking, blind spot monitoring, pedestrian detection, and a rearview camera, among many other features.
